CCG worked alongside Qassim Municipality to prepare a comprehensive roads and intersections guidelines manual in accordance with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The Roads and Intersections guidelines manual was designed by CCG’s Project Manager Ala’ AlSoud and his team (Eng. Salah Al-Qadi, Eng. Zaki Hussein, Eng. Mohammad Al-Keswani and Eng. Moamar Al-Qararah) and was launched in 2021.
The guide includes technical standards, engineering specifications and models for the design of roads in the Qassim region and the city of Buraidah in Saudi Arabia. It establishes integrated, convenient and multi-way methods that will improve existing roads and help with the development of new roads and transportation networks.
The instruction manual includes several chapters:
Road Hierarchy
Cross sections & profiles
Parking facilities
Pedestrian facilities
Traffic control devices & signage
Public services design
Public transportation
The project plan was prepared according to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, to provide infrastructure that supports the economic growth of the region, and supports the building of a strong economy that lasts well into the future.
The quality and efficiency of infrastructure is a key indicator of a region’s sustainability and quality of life, and the transportation and roads network is considered to be one of the most important pillars supporting the sustainability of modern cities.
Qassim’s location is very important and has contributed to and encouraged the growth of its activities. It has formed a transit area for most commercial flights within the Kingdom, as well as flights for Hajj and Umrah, and its accelerated pace of growth has contributed to an increase in the economy, trade and exchange between Qassim and its neighboring regions.
Saudi Arabia, and especially the city of Buraidah, have grown over the past decades, with an accelerated transition from it being a small city with a simple and homogenous urban character, to becoming a large city with various urban patterns that is continuing to grow. Despite the many positives of this journey, this rapid pace of growth has contributed to an increased population density that requires a solution to better its transportation networks.
The project was conducted in accordance with the executives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program 2020 to pave the way, guide designers and implementers in this field, and set the most important engineering standards to adhere to when creating road networks. It is the cornerstone and key reference for the basic principles for all those related to the field of transportation and roads in the region.
The guide is part of the implementation of Qassim Municipality’s strategic transportation plan. It is used as a prime reference when setting up engineering blueprints in relation to any route within the scope of the Municipality of Al Qassim or Buraidah City. It is necessary for those supervising the development to abide by the specified measurements and characteristics.
It will be updated periodically, to keep on top of scientific developments in the field of infrastructure works and to encourage innovation and ensure efficiency and modernity of new roads and transportation networks.
